Gweebara fishing cases adjourned in Dungloe District Court

A total of 137 charges against 40 men and one woman of illegal fishing have been further adjourned at Dungloe District Court today.

A number of the cases have been before the courts, ranging from the District to the Supreme, over the past four years.

All of the cases involve allegations by Inland Fisheries of illegal fishing on the Gweebarra River system in the Doochary area of Co. Donegal. Some of the summonses date back to 2008.

A number of the cases are part-heard before Judge Denis McLoughlin in Dungloe District Court.

Today, Judge Mary Devins was told in the court that Judge McLoughlin is expected to be sitting there again in October.

She adjourned all cases to September 10 when a date will be fixed for continued hearings by Judge McLoughlin.
