Donegal County Council to get an extra eight members as town councils are axed

Donegal County Council is to get an extra 8 members under proposals published this evening by the Local Electoral Area Boundary Committee.
The extra number reflects the increase in the county’s population to just over 161,000, and also the fact that the councils in Ballyshannon, Buncrana, Bundoran and Letterkenny are to be abolished.
There had been speculation that the electoral boundaries would be changed, but that hasn’t happened.
Under the proposals contained in the report, the make up of the council will be as follows –
Donegal 6, up 1.
Glenties 6, up 1
Inishowen 9, up 2.
Letterkenny 10, up 3
Stranorlar 6, up 1.

The report can be accessed at http://www.boundarycommittee.ie/reports/2013-Report.pdf, with the section on Donegal to be found on pages 37 – 40.
