Eight objections have been lodged against a Government decision to grant prospecting licences in Inishowen to Rio Minerals.
Based out of Vancouver, Rio Minerals describes itself as a a versatile mineral exploration and geotechnical consulting firm specializing in full project management.
The Government intends to award the company prospecting licences for silver, gold and mercury in east and west Inishowen.
The Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources has announced he intends to grant prospecting licences in 29 townland in East Inishowen and over 80 in West Inishowen
Rio Minerals will prospect for Base Metals, Barytes, Silver, Gold, and Mercury.
A total of eight objections were lodged to the plans although only four of those were recived before the advertised deadline.
The government says that the prospecting licence only entitles the holder to explore for mineral deposits and does not authorise mining of any minerals and that the actions permissible under a licence are, in general, non-invasive and of minimal environmental impact.
Maps showing the areas are available at Buncrana Garda Station and the Donegal County Council Offices, Carndonagh
