Gardai closing in on Pettigo robbery suspects

Gardai have targetted a gang who live a short distance away from Pettigo across the border in Co. Fermanagh.
In what senior gardai in south Donegal described as “a very active inquiry” evidence is still being carefully gathered before an extradition is sought.
Although the gang lives across the border, their accents match what Phyllis McGee said were “local accents”.
Meanwhile, gardai have re-staffed their Pettigo station which was without personnel since the retirement of the only member of the force based there at the end of last year.
Chief Supt Terry McGinn, who is in charge of Garda operations throughout Donegal, said the gardai are totally committed to providing protection for the community. But with reducing numbers in the force it sometimes can mean a wait for a vacancy to be filled.
