Council officials asked to seek a review of flouridation policy

A Donegal Councillor is calling for a renewed debate about flouride before control of the provision of water is taken out of the hands of local authorities.

Cllr Patrick Mc Gowan says the flouridation of water is carried out by the council on behalf of the HSE, and the policy is not set locally. However, he says with new research being published on a regular basis, there are very real fears that the disadvantages of flouradation now significantly outweigh the advantages.

He wants the council's Director of Environmental Services to contact the HSE, seeking a review of the reasons why flouride is still put into the water supply............
