The Director of Nursing at Letterkenny General Hospital says measures are being put in place to address hygiene issues identified in a HIQA report published last week.
The inspectors did not identify any immediate serious risks to the health and welfare of patients receiving care at Letterkenny General Hospital, but added that while there was evidence of good practice, overall, the three areas assessed were unclean.
The report concluded the inspectors' findings would suggest that the physical environment was not effectively managed and maintained to protect patients and reduce the spread of Healthcare Associated Infections.
This poses a significant risk to patients.
The areas were Surgical 1, Maternity and the Emergency Department.
Director of Nursing Dr Anne Flood says this is an issue that is being taken very seriously.....
