Former Waterford Crystal workers to receive € 300 million as they win case against the State

The Government is going to have to find up to 300 million euro for former workers of Waterford Crystal after they won their case against the State.
The European Court of Justice found that under EU law the State had an obligation to protect the pension entitlements of workers in the event of a company becoming insolvent.
The ten workers lost large parts of their pensions when the company went bankrupt four years ago.
Earlier, the Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore told the Dail the Government is awaiting a further High Court hearing before deciding how to proceed.
The trade Union Unite is calling on the government to implement fully the EU Insolvency Directive on pensions.
