Letterkenny Tesco Filling Station given the green light

An Bord Pleanala has upheld a controversial decision by Letterkenny Town Council to award planning permission to Tesco Ireland for petrol pumps.
The Council granted planning to Tesco for a filling station in June of 2012.
The plans include the demolition of  a shed, to be replaced by a 4-island petrol filling station and a second exit out of Letterkenny Shopping Centre.
Eddie Tobin from near-by Tobin’s Service Station was one of those who opposed the development as was  Paul Sweeney who owns a Spar shop – both receiving some support at  Letterkenny Town Council meetings, not least by Councillor Jim Lynch.
The Councillor questioning whether or not planners had read the County Retail Plan, which he claimed the decision contravenes – at the time, the County Manager Seamus Neeley said those assertions were incorrect.
An Bord Pleanala has now decided the development can go ahead subject to a number of conditions – mostly relating to orderly development.
