Farmers say college grant system is unfair

Farmers say a proposed new means test for the college grant will deny their children a third level education.
The Education Minister is looking at including assets worth over three quarters of a million euro in the means test.
At present, parents’ income is what’s assessed in deciding on eligibility for a college grant.
But Ruairi Quinn is said to be looking at including farm machinery, land and other assets as part of the test.
Labour TD for Dublin North Central Aodhán O’Riordán says the current system isn’t fair:
