Barnardo’s concerned at high child poverty rates in Derry and Strabane

barnardosMore than one in three children live in poverty in Strabane and Derry.
The figures revealed in the UK wide Campaign to End Child Poverty, Child Poverty Map were released by children’s charity Barnardo’s.
According to the official UK government definition child poverty means a family of two adults and two children with an income of 60% or more below the national average income, representing £12 or less per person, per day.
In Derry, 35% of children are living in poverty, while in Strabane, the figure is 32%.
