Derry police to crack down on illegal gaming machines

Police in Derry have warned they’ll be clamping down on businesses that have illegal gaming machines on their premises.
The warning follows a number of complaints from members of the public regarding gaming machines in the City.
In a statement today, Police in Derry say gaming machines are not permitted in fast food outlets, video hire shops, shops and taxi offices. They are permitted in registered clubs, pubs, amusement arcades and bingo clubs.
Area Commander Chief Inspector Jon Burrows said local retailers should be fully aware of the legislation surrounding gaming machines. If not, he added, they should make it their business to know, and he warned excuses won’t be accepte
Chief Inspector Burrows says inspections will be increased and a number of planned operations are expected to take place over the next few months. He says retailers should use this time to get their business in order, otherwise they could face prosecution.
