Donegal County Council to debate new Water Services Bill

Donegal County Council is to discuss a Sinn Fein motion calling on the government to scrap plans for water charges, and concentrate instead on improving conservation and upgrading the water supply system.
At today’s council meeting in Lifford, Cllr Mick Quinn will argue that the Water Services Bill published this month will charge people for water while, at the same time, removing the system from public control.
Cllr Quinn says instead on proceeding with the bill, the Government should focus positively on Water Conservation, and equitable Local Government Funding.
He argues that the current course will inevitably lead to water being privatised…………
