Donegal’s Willie McLaughlin chalked up a unanimous decision last night to help Italia Thunder to a 3-2 away victory over the David Oliver Joyce’s German Eagles in the World Series of Boxing.
McLaughlin, a constant source of aggression and four and five-punch combinations, was too hot to handle for Germany’s Stefan Hartel, who beat Irish team captain Darren O’Neill in the Olympic Games last summer.
The scores were 48-47,48-47,49-46 in favour of the Illies GG ace, who is boxing at middleweight in the WSB.
The win sees Thunder leapfrog the British Lionhearts, who beat the USA Knockouts last night, back into second place in Group B. The Lionhearts drop to third place, one point behind the Italians.
