Letterkenny man recovering after being hit by train in Holland

Details have emerged of a lucky escape for a 40 year old Letterkenny man who is recovering in hospital after being hit by a train in the Netherlands.
The accident happened almost a fortnight ago as Kevin Rooney was out jogging.
The Donegal News reports that Mr Rooney, who works with the European Patents Office, was discharged from intensive care on Wednesday of last week, but is still in hospital recovering from internal injuries as well as a broken arm and leg.
The 40 year old has lived in The Netherlands for 10 years.
He had stopped at a barrier as a train passed, and then began running across, not realising that a second train was coming in the opposite direction. He was struck by the second train, and spent 24 hours on the critical list.
He is now recovering in hospital, with family members planning to travel to The Hague to visit him next weekend.
