Soccer – Devine & Patterson Senior Cup Delight.

Derry City won the FAI Senior Cup for the 5th time on Sunday, beating St. Patricks Athletic 3-2 at the Aviva Stadium.
Similar to their last success in 2006 and against the same opposition, extra-time was required as Rory Patterson became the hero with his 105th minute winner.
After a dull opening half the game came to life in the second, St Pat’s took the lead through Sean O’Connor’s direct free-kick in the 53rd minute but Derry were quickly level through Stewart Greacen’s header.
Rory Patterson edged Derry ahead with a penalty but Christy Fagan snatched a late equaliser for St Pat’s.
Super sub Patterson scored the winner in the first period of extra-time to give the Candystrip’s a dramatic win and silverware to wrap up the season.
Derry City Manager Declan Devine said afterwards that the club is now back to where it belongs – winning trophies…
