Portnoo native’s sons were NY storm’s youngest victims

A special memorial mass is to be held in St Conal’s Church, Kilclooney on the same day that the funeral takes place of two boys who died when they were swept from their mother’s arms in Staten Island, New York last week during Superstorm Sandy. They were the youngest victims of the storm.
Four year old Connor Moore and his two year old brother Brandon were the sons of Damien Moore, originally from Portnoo, where his parents still live after returning from the US. Their mother Glenda was trying to get the boys to her mother’s Brooklyn home when her pick up truck was toppled by the wind, and as she tried to wade to safety through the floods, both boys were wrenched from her grasp and washed away.
Damien was working for the city council when the tragedy happened.
Father Philip Daly, the curate in Kilclooney which serves Portnoo says the boys’ grandparents will not be able to travel to the US for their funeral, so a special simultaneous mass will take place in Donegal.
