Donegal and Kerry to join forces in Coastguard retention campaign

Donegal County Council and Kerry County Council are once again joining forces to make a joint case for the retention of coastguard bases at Malin Head and Valencia.
The issue has been back on the agenda since the Fisher Report recommended centralising services in Dublin, and was debated for several hours in Leinster House this week at a meeting of the Joint Oireachtas Transport Committee.
At that meeting, officials were at pains to say that no decisions have been taken, and the service remains under review.
The Donegal / Kerry link was initiated this week on foot of a motion moved by Fine Gael Cllr Bernard Mc Guinness and signed by all Inishowen councillors.
