Further calls for retention of Malin Head Coastguard station

The Joint Oireachtas Committee has heard an impassioned plea for the retention of the Malin Head Coastguard Station from an SDLP Councillor in Limavady who has a unique perspective.
Orla Beattie lives in Limavady, but teaches at Glentogher National School near Carndonagh, travelling to and from work via the Foyle Ferry when it is operational.
Cllr Beattie told the committee that the service provided by Malin Head is vital to her area:


Chris Reynolds is head of he Irish Coastguard, and endorsed the tributes to the staff at Malin Coastguard Station.
However, while stressing that no decisions have been taken, he was unable to offer any guarantees for the future of the North Donegal base:
