Cabinet will discuss Local Government reform proposals tomorrow

Major reform plans for local government are set to come before cabinet tomorrow.

It emerged last week that a radical overhaul of the system was on the cards, with many Town Councils around the country facing abolition or merger.

It's expected the plan could save more than 70 million euro, but town councillors in Donegal say it would be a false economy.

Conversely, Political Editor Shane Coleman says some people wanted to see even more radical proposals, but that would have been a step too far for the cabinet.........
