Cope proposes changes to fishing conservation measures

Fishermen in Donegal could find restrictions eased after changes to Technical Conservation Measures proposed by North West MEP Pat The Cope Gallagher were unanimously accepted by the European Parliament’s Fisheries Committee today.
He says he wants to remove and amend outdated and unworkable fishing constraints such as area and gear restrictions, which date back to 2009.
Pat the Cope says the changes would be particularly important for small scale fishermen operating inshore and from the Donegal Islands.
However,.he’s warning many of the proposed changes will be opposed by the EU commission and the council of ministers………..
