Varadkar agrees timetable for cross border penalty points recognition

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar has agreed a detailed timetable with his counterparts in Northern Ireland to have mutual recognition of penalty points in both jurisdictions.
A North South MInister Council meeting in Armagh has agreed that parallel legislation will be passed, north and south, by 31st December 2014 to allow penalty points imposed in the republic to be recognised in the North, and vice versa.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Varadkar said he looks forward to a time when it won’t be possible to escape penalty points simply by crossing the border.
