Alcohol problems have been identified as the “number one issue in Ireland” by Donegal Deputy Thomas Pringle.
He made his comments during a Dail debate on a technical grouop motion calling for more investment in addiction services.
Deputy Pringle said when he was a child, sweets were on display beside the checkout in shops, now people are being encouraged to buy their drink at the point where they’re buying their groceries.
Newly appointed Miniser Alex White promised to bring a plan to government in the near future, and a government amendment means tonight's vote will be lost.
