County Council rejects gay marriage rights motion

Donegal County Council has rejected a motion calling for equal rights in same sex civil marriages but has adopted an amended motion.
Councillor John Campbell’s original motion was amended by Fine Gael to
welcome the consideration of the issue by the constitutional convention.
A Fianna Fail amendment which effectively called for the status quo to
be maintained fell.
The convention is a 100 member group made up of members of the public
and politicians charged with making recommendations to the Oireachtas
on constitutional matters.
One of the issues they will consider is the issue of the rights of
same sex couples in a civil marriage.
Councillor Campbell says the outcome was as much as he could have expected:
