Council’s decision to refuse permission for new St Johnston estate reversed

A major housing development in St Johnston has been given the green light by An Bord Pleanala.
The plans for 28 houses by KDC properties LTD were initially refused permission by Donegal County Council -An Bord Pleanala reversed that decision on appeal.
The proposed multiple development  is made up of of 28 homes made up of two story semi-detached dwellings, associated site work and a public play area.
The council refused permission on the grounds that there was no proper footpath between the proposed development and the town centre – expressing concern over pedestrian safety and that it may constitute a serious traffic hazard to road users.
In making its decision, An Bord Pleanala disagreed with the council’s view that the development would  be contrary to the proper planning & sustainable development of the area.
The development can go ahead subject to a number of conditions including the omittance of two housing blocks and the construction of a footpath or pedestrian crossing to improve safety.
