Greenfield Home in Strabane under threat of closure once again

The future of a Strabane residential care home is in doubt once again after the Health Board unveiled plans to cut its residential care facilities in the North by half.
There was a huge outcry when Greenfield Home was threatened with closure four years ago, but it was eventually announced in March 2009 that the facility would stay open.
But Greenfield is once again under threat after a delegation of healthcare officials released a 97 page report containing 99 recommendations for revolutionising healthcare across Northern Ireland over the next five years.
Included in the recommendations is the “very significant reduction” in Government run care homes, with up to half of all facilities across Northern Ireland set to close by 2017.
