No confirmation that Gynae Ward at LGH will close next Thursday

There’s still no clarity about the future of gynaecology services at Letterkenny General Hospital.  Concerns persist over management plans to close the Gynaecology Ward, transfer services to surgical wards and deploy staff to the new unit which is due to open next month.
Speculation is growing that a decision has been taken to implement that plan on Thursday next, September 6th.
That’s not been confirmed by the HSE.
Meanwhile,  Donegal North-East TD has hit out at the Health Minister, saying he has gone into hiding when massive cuts to health spending are being announced both nationally and at Letterkenny General Hospital.
Oireachtas members who met with hospital management yesterday were told that Letterkenny General was facing 4 million in cuts between now and December.
But Deputy Charlie McConalogue says the hospital should be rewarded for being run so efficiently.
He says Dr James Reilly promised pre-election that money would follow the patient, but he says Dr Reilly has not lived up to any of his pre-election promises….
