Information evening for young people starting college

Donegal Youth Service will host an information workshop tonight for young people leaving home to study for the first time next week.
The workshop takes place at the Youth Information Centre in Letterkenny at 7pm this evening.
Staff will be there to help students and parents with information on a range of issues from budgeting to tenants’ rights.
This evening’s workshop will offer advice on health, keeping safe, financial and budgeting advice, finding accommodation, tenants rights and how to make the most out of college.
Youth Information Officer Martin Keeney says in many cases, so much emphasis is placed on the Leaving Cert results and CAO offers, that little thought is given to preparing students for what can be a difficult experience.
This event offers young people and their parents the chance to come along, ask questions and begin to prepare properly for the experiences that lie ahead.”
The “Flying the Coop” booklet produced by the Roscommon Youth Information Centre will also be available full of advice on all these areas, including tenants rights, useful contacts and advice for those going on to study in Northern Ireland or the UK, as well as colleges in the Republic.
