Donegal Garda Station closed in 2012 recorded 60% jump in crime in 2011

New figures for 2011 show that Lettekenny Garda station dealt with the equivalent of almost 6 criminal offences everyday last year.
According to the CSO, Letterkenny was by far the busiest station in the county dealing with just over 2000 criminal offences – Buncrana dealt with 505 offences last year, while Ballybofey dealt with 433.
Bundoran, Donegal Town and Ballyshannon are next in order – those stations dealt with less than a single reported crime each day.
Compared to 2010 there were marginal increases in the level of crime dealt with in Letterkenny and Ballybofey – Buncrana recorded a fall of 10%.
Elsewhere their was an increase of 38% in criminal offences in Castlefin, a 35% increase in Clonmany and a 22% increase in Killybegs. The increase in Clonmany can be mainly attributed to public order offences.
Surprisingly, Doochary Station, which was closed earlier this year, saw an jump in criminal offences between 2010 and 2011 of almost 60%.
Outside of Lettekenny – the highest rates of Burglary and related offences was recorded at rural border garda stations.
