Warning of bogus callers purporting to collect Household Charge

A warning has been issued after reports that a number of homes have been visited in West Donegal by people who are claiming they are collecting the Household Charge on behalf of the council.
Donegal County Council has already issued a warning stating they will not be calling at people’s homes to collect the charge.
The Cant Pay Won’t Pay group, which opposed the 100 euro levy, says a number of people have contacted them stating they have had people calling at the door looking to collect the charge.
Spokesperson Micheál Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig:

Meanwhile, the Can’t Pay Won’t Pay group will be protesting outside the Highlands Hotel in Glenties this afternoon ahead of a talk at the MacGill Summer School by Environment Minister Phil Hogan on the role of local government in political reform.
