Donegal Island Fishermen have ‘positive’ Oireachtas meeting

Representatives for Donegal Island Fishermen have said they are encouraged by the response to their Island Survival Plan presentation to an Oireachtas Committee.
Restrictions on Salmon fishing and the ban on fishing within forty miles of the coast have seen many fishermen in Donegal losing their livelihoods and, it’s claimed, has led to mass emigration.
Since 1998 – the population of Aranmore Island has fallen from over 750 to just 450.
Jerry Early was part of the delegation that made the presentation to Oireachtas Committee – he says he is hopeful of a breakthrough on the issue:
