Council’s Letterkenny Tesco filling station decision appealed

As was expected, the controversial decision by Letterkenny Town Council to award planning permission to Tesco for petrol pumps has been referred to An Bord Pleanala.
Planning permission was granted to Tesco for a filling station and second exit out of Letterkenny Shopping Centre this despite claims it contravenes the County Retail Plan.
Before An Bord Pleanala is Tesco Ireland Limited’s application to Demolish a shed and construct a 4-island petrol filling station.
Eddie Tobin from Tobin’s Service Station is listed as an appellant as is a Paul Sweeney.
The planning department’s decision to award permission has already been raised a number of times at Letterkenny Town Council nor least by Cllr Jim Lynch.
He has questioning whether or not planners had read the County Retail Plan, which he claimed the decision contravenes.
County Manager Seamus Neeley has said those assertions are incorrect.
The planning board says a decision on whether or not the development can go ahead will be made by the 22nd of October this year.
