Soccer – Derry Slump To Cup Defeat

The semi-final line-up for this year’s EA Sports Cup is now complete after Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers booked their places in the last four last night.
Sligo scored four unanswered second-half goals as they beat Derry City by four goals to nil at the Showgrounds. Danny North and Rafael Cretaro scored two goals apiece while the Candystripes finished with just ten men after Ryan McBride was sent-off.
But Shamrock Rovers needed penalties to beat St Patricks Athletic after their Dublin derby finished dead-locked on one-all at Richmond Park. Killian Brennan gave Rovers the lead with an early free-kick but that was cancelled-out by a Sean O’Connor header in the 27th minute. And the Hoops held their nerve during the shoot-out to win-out 4-2.
