Council rejects motion to construct wind-farm close to Donegal Town

The majority of Donegal County Councillors have voted in favour of a material contravention of the county development plan to facilitate the construction of a wind-farm close to Donegal Town.

However in a recorded vote the motion failed as it didn’t get the 21 votes required to be carried.

Eco Wind Power is seeking to construct 12 windturbines across the town lands of Lough Cuill, Meenadreen and Croaghnameal.
The turbines are 70 metres in height and have a diameter of up to 84 metres.
Despite the current development plan having just two weeks to run, planners wanted to application pushed through not least as the company has already invested heavily in the project.
