Ulster Bank branches to remain open until 6pm today

Opening hours at 80 Ulster Bank branches will be extended until 6pm today, in a bid to get through a backlog of transactions caused by a technical malfunction.

The glitch in the bank's IT system emerged last week and is said to have affected payment services for over 100-thousand customers.

Ulster Bank has assured customers that they will not end up out of pocket - but admits it could take until the end of the week to clear the backlog.

In a statement last night, the Bank said it's working around the clock to resolve a number of minor issues - linked to the malfunction - which still need to be resolved.

CEO of RBS Corporate Banking including Ulster Bank, Chris Sullivan, says the priority is to get things back on track for customers, but the fault will be investigated:
