Raphoe based Cllr Frank Mc Brearty will be Mayor of Donegal after the County Council’s AGM this afternoon.
All five independent members have confirmed they will be honouring the pact agreed in 2010 and supporting Cllr Mc Brearty’s candidacy, despite a concerted Fianna Fail campaign.
Raphoe based Cllr Frank Mc Brearty will be Mayor of Donegal after the County Council’s AGM this afternoon.
Fianna Fail, which has 11 members on the 29 member body say they will oppose his election, and propose veteran Cllr Rena Donaghey for the top job.
However, Fine Gael, Sinn Fein and Labour have 13 members between them, all of whom will be supporting Cllr Mc Brearty. That leaves the five Independent members, all of whom have confirmed to Highland Radio News that they will be supporting Cllr Mc Brearty.
