A man who’s wedding was ruined when the PSNI wrongly suspected that he and his wife were involved in a sham wedding, has said that the discipline handed out to police officers does not go far enough.
Neil McElwee and his then pregnant Chinese fiance Yanan Sun were unlawfully arrested and detained by the police in Derry last year just before their wedding ceremony in the Guildhall.
At the time of the incident, Yanan was five months pregnant.
Shortly after the incident the Police apologised for any distress caused, and yesterday it was confirmed that three police officers were disciplined for arresting the couple.
Speaking on todays Shaun Doherty Show, Mr McElwee said the punishment doesnt go far enough…….
