Clamping on the cards for illegal use of Letterkenny disabled parking bays

Letterkenny Town Council is to seek legal advice on whether it would require a change in by-laws to implement clamping for people who illegally park in disabled parking bays.
The issue was raised by Cllr Ciaran Brogan, who said the law is often flouted in this regard, and a very clear deterrent is necessary.
Mayor Cllr Gerry Mc Monagle questioned whether a change in by-laws might be needed, saying that he wouldn’t like to see anyone getting off on a technicality. Officials say they don’t believe so, but will seek advice.
Cllr Brogan says it’s important a clear message goes out that such parking will not be accepted……………..

Meanwhile, Letterkenny Town Council is to examine the possibility of establishing a set down facility opposite St Eunan’s College for parents and guardians who are dropping off and picking up students.
Cllr Paschal Blake told members there is a piece of waste ground beside the old mart site which would be perfect for the project.
Some concerns were expressed that this could become just another parking spot, but Cllr Blake believes that properly managed, such a facility could make that area safer.
