Rallying – Donegal International Rally Preview Pt1

The 2012 Topaz Donegal International Rally Ireland has once again attracted a top class entry with over 140 cars entered. Drivers and rally crews from all over Ireland and further afield will converge on Letterkenny next weekend  for the county’s annual motorsport extravanagza.
Officials have laid on some new tests this year, employing roads that have not been used for many years, including runs around the Manorcunningham and Burt areas on Friday and the Trentagh Termon area on the first half of  Saturday.
Oisin Kelly has been speaking with Clerk of the Course Eamon Mc Gee…

Darren Gass, Darragh O’Riordan, Garry Jennings, Derek McGarrity, Niall Maguire, Donagh Kelly and Seamus Leonard are the leading seeds in Subaru WRC’s. Joining them in the top ten will hopefully be former British Champion Mark Higgins in a Mini WRC, as well as Aaron MacHale in a Focus WRC and top Mk2 Escort man Daniel McKenna.
At 11 is Scottish Champion David Bogie in his Metro 6R4.  There is certainly no shortage of ‘Escort men’ who will be out in Donegal to beat the flying McKenna. Declan Boyle, Manus Kelly and Brian Brogan are just some who will be out to challenge for National Rally honours.
Oisin also spoke with Eugene Donnelly ahead of the rally. Eugene has been working with the RSA highlighting Road Safety in the county this week.  The former Irish Tarmac Champion and three time winner of the Donegal International has been giving his thoughts on what to expect over the three days and what it takes to win in Donegal…
