Council refers report on Senator O’Domhnaill’s expenses claims to SPOC

Donegal County Council has confirmed that a report on expenses claims made by Senator Brian O’Domhnaill when he was a council member has been sent to the Standards in Public Office Commission.
The referral follows an investigation into a possible contravention of Part 15 of the Local Government Act.
The expenses being examined were claimed in 2006 and 2007 for travel and subsistence for attending events and conferences on behalf of the council.
When the investigation was launched, Senator O’Domhnaill claimed he was at the centre of a smear campaign.
He added that there was absolutely no foundation to any of the allegations made and said he looked forward to the Council’s findings.
The Senator concluded that he is confident the investigation will finally put an end to what he described as ‘ this political smear campaign’
