Calls for more cooperation as dissident threat is discussed in Dail

Calls have been made for more cross-border co-operation between the Gardai and the PSNI to combat the threat from dissident republicans along the border.
The activities of Republican Action Against Drugs, and Monday’s find of a number of explosive devices in a flat in the Bogside in Derry were highlighted in the Dail yesterday evening.
The recent discovery of a bomb factory in Omagh and two Real IRA bombs earlier this year in Derry were also pointed out.
Kildare South Deputy Sean O Fearghail said the current economic situation in Ireland is driving people towards these dissident groups, and he said more must be done to stop people joining them……


In repsonse to Deputy O Fearghail, the Minister of State With Special Responsibility For European Affairs said that substanstial funding was being expended to curb the problem of dissident republican activity.
Deputy Lucinda Creighton said the dissidents are being targetted on a cross-border basis…..
