Soccer – McClean Quits Twitter Due To Threats On Republic Selection

Republic of Ireland winger James Mc Clean has quit twitter. The Sunderland player made the move after receiving death threats from Northern Ireland fans who are angered that he elected to play for the Republic despite representing the North at under 21 level.
Mc Lean was included in the squad for Euro 2012 and received the threats after expressing his delight at being named, he also responded to abusers by mocking them about the North’s non qualification.
Former Irish international Kevin Kilbane says Mc Clean deserves to go to the Euro’s.


Shay Given has also been included in the 23-man squad for the euro campaign. The Lifford man joins Keiren Westood and former Derry City stopper David Forde in the goalkeeper department. Another Derry man, Darren Gibson has been named among the midfielder’s.
Seamus Coleman can only make the standby list along with Paul Mc Shane, Paul Green and Andy Keogh. The Killybegs man has had an up and down season with Everton, making very few starts all season.
