Oireachtas Committee debates salmon farming proposals

A Dail committee has been told that potential growth has been lost in Donegal because of delays in licensing aquaculture projects.
Deputy Joe Mc Hugh told the meeting of the Communications, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Marine Committee today that Marine Harvest in Donegal had waited 20 years for licences. That means, he said, aquaculture companies cannot meet all their orders……….


Deputy Mc Hugh was speaking during a discussion on plans to develop 10 salmon farms off the Irish coast, including one close to Gola Island off Donegal.
Senator Brian O’Domhnaill meanwhile told the meeting that while development is needed, peole must be consulted……….
