Pat the Cope Gallagher welcomes latest efforts to stop Mackerel overfishing

The Committee on Fisheries in the European Parliament has approved the introduction of new trade measures including sanctions which are designed to prevent overfishing by non EU country.
Ireland North West MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher was appointed to oversee the introduction of the measures.
There aim is to pressure the Faro Islands and Iceland to cease the overfishing of Mackerel which is having a huge impact on Ireland’s catch, most notably Killybegs.
Mr Gallagher says he hopes this next step towards sanctions against their over-fishing will restart negotiations to resolve the situation:
