Slow down in construction sector in Donegal continues

A new National Housing Construction Index complied and issued by a construction consultancy shows the slow down in the construction sector continues in Donegal.
Link2Plans has published a National Housing Construction Index detailing Planning Applications and Commencements throughout the months of January and February 2012, and comparing them with the same period in 2011.
In January and February 2011 150 Planning Applications were submitted in Donegal. In the same period this year just 139 Applications were submitted constituting a drop of 7%. That compares to a national average of 23%.
In the same period the number of Commencement Notices issued in Donegal had decreased from 46 projects to 29, a percentage decrease of 37%. That’s considerably higher than the average national decrease of 14%.
Meanwhile, CSO figures published last week showed here were 189 planning permissions granted in the final quarter of last year, compared to 232 in the final quarter of 2010. That’s a fall of 18%.
