James McDaid says he believes Bertie Ahern’s ‘dig-out’ claims

Former Fianna Fail Minister Dr James McDaid has come to the defence of Bertie Ahern stating he believes evidence he gave to the Mahon Tribunal about a dig-out was true.
Dr McDaid says that while he accepted the majority of the Tribunal’s findings,  it is wrong to treat them as infallible and for them not to be challenged.
In its final report the tribunal found that, contrary to his sworn evidence, there were no dig-outs in 1993 and 1994 for Mr Ahern and that large dollar and sterling cash lodgements were made to his bank accounts in the mid-1990s.
But speaking today Dr James McDaid said he believed that there was a dig-out and that, in his opinion, Bertie Ahern is not corrupt:
