Council may refuse power to pursue Household Charge defaulters

Donegal County Council is to be asked not to use any special powers granted to it in the Household Charge Act to identify people who are refusing to pay.
Sinn Fein Cllr Jack Murray says he will submit an emergency motion to next Monday’s council meeting asking the council not to use the power requiring utility companies to supply information relevant to the collection of the charge.
Cllr Murray says this is not a function which is reserved for management, and he hopes top secure sufficient numbers to see the motion through the chamber…………..
