Breaking News updated: Man shot dead in Buncrana

A man has been shot dead at a house in Lisfannon in County Donegal just over the border from Derry.
It is believed that the man was shot dead in a housing development called Links View.
There were unconfirmed reports that three men approached the house and shot the man dead. It is believed that the dead man is originally from the Waterside area of Derry.
A car was later found burned out at Fahan a short distance away.
Recently there was a suspicious fire in a house in the same development which is a quiet beachside row of fairly new houses. It is thought that the fire and last night’s shooting are connected.
The area is sealed off and there is a very heavy Garda presence.
While it is unclear who is behind the shooting it is believed that gunmen may have travelled over the border from Derry City. The dead man is thought to be from a well known family from the Waterside area.
Local TD Padraig MacLochlainn said “The community in Buncrana is shocked and horrified that a man has been shot in our town tonight.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this extremely difficult time.”
Deputy Mac Lochlainn also appealed to anyone with any information to come forward;
“Anyone who was in the Lisfannon area tonight and may have any information – no matter how small it may seem – should come forward and contact the Gardaí immediately.”
