Harkin says EU money may be used for septic tank works

Controversial septic tank legislation has now passed through the Dail and Seanad, with Donegal Senator Brian O’Domhnaill saying the Government has escaped answering the most fundamental questions about how the charges will affect people.
MInister Phil Hogan says the only charges are a €50 registration fee, and inspections are free.
However, Senator O’Domhnaill, Fianna Fail’s Agriculture Spokesperson in the Seanad says grave uncertainty remains about what costs are now facing septic tank owners if they need to replace or modify their systems.
However, there may be money available from the EU to help fund any necessary works, North West MEP Marian Harkin says she’s already raised this with Mr Hogan…………
