Donegal Creameries deal good for dairy sector in West and North West – Harkin

North West MEP Marian Harkin says the recent acquisition of Donegal Creameries' dairy division by Connaught Gold will be good for the dairy sector in the West and North West.

Speaking to farmers at a meeting in Roscommon, Ms Harkin said there are a number of challenges facing farmers north of the Dublin Galway line, including the age profile of farmers and fragmentation of holdings.

In particular, she says, there's a pressing need in the dairy sector for farmer controlled, world class processing facilities, and the deal between Donegal Creameries and Connaught Gold can help contribute to that goal.........
