Head of Comhaltas welcomes Derry Fleadh bid

The Director General of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann says holding the All-Ireland Fleadh Ceol in Derry would be an acknowledgement of the work done in Northern Ireland to support and promote Irish music and culture.
Last night, The Derry County Board of Comhaltas ratified a local bid to host the fleadh in 2013 after a sometimes contentious debate.
Some delegates from South Derry did not attend the meeting, having earlier voiced concern that the bid for next year was being linked to the city’s designation as UK City of Culture.
The bid, which could be worth £40 million to the city, must now be ratified by the Comhaltas Ulster Council, before a decision on the venue is made at the end of the month.
